The Hishi-Sayagata Sashiko Sampler is a cotton sashiko sampler with a pre-printed design.
This traditional Japanese motif is available pre-printed on cherry red, indigo, and French blue fabric. Each sampler panel measures 12″ x 12″, printed in Australia by Indigo Niche.
About the design
Literally ‘saya brocade pattern’, Hishi Sayagata is known as a ‘diamond’ shaped sayagata design, and makes a great background for scattered motifs.
It bears some resemblance to the Linked Ten Crosses design and is sometimes referred to as ‘Linked Crosses’ or ‘Puzzle Pieces’.
This fret pattern was introduced to Japan from China during the Muromachi era (1392 – 1568).
